The Matt Capps Quote Of The Day

Matt Capps seems to be a pretty fun guy. As things were winding down inside the home clubhouse at Nationals Park this morning, Sohna and I were just chatting with him about various things Washington. We had introduced ourselves to Our New Closer upon arrival an hour earlier. In a relaxed atmosphere, this very hilarious conversation ensued.

The Matt Capps Quote Of The Day.

SBF: Pudge Rodriguez--you are going to be throwing to him?

Capps: “I know!! (Huge Smile--Eyes Bulging Out)

SBF: What does that mean to you?

“It’s exciting. It’s very exciting. The guy is a future Hall of Famer (laughing almost uncontrollably now because he is so pleased over the possibility). I really don’t know what else to say. I am so thrilled about it (clinching his fists together in triumph). It’s one of those once in a lifetime experiences that will play out all season. That’s pretty cool in my book. I am excited about it—can you tell?”

Very loud laughter among us.

One more conversation worth mentioning:

Earlier during our introduction, Sohna asked Matt whether he had finally picked up a Red Curly "W" Cap. You may recall that Chico Harlan over at The Washington Post had a conversation with Capps the other day. In that chat, Matt revealed he went to the local mall in Asheville, North Carolina to purchase a Nationals Cap at Lids--The Cap Store. He found everything Nationals sold out.

Sohna: So, it's true there were none around.

Matt: "As it turned out, my mother had gone to the very same store and bought 11 Nats Caps. Another relative bought seven. When I showed up--there were none. But I got one now (showing us his new Red Curly "W"--size 7 1/2 by the way)."

Sohna: Well, if you ever need anything Curly "W" again, just come over to our place. We got everything Curly "W".

Team President Stan Kasten happens to be passing by: "Yeah, multiple times!!"

Everyone starts chuckling.

Thanks, as always, for the transcripts, particularly in this instance when the event wasn't televised.
