Two More Tweaks To Washington's Away Uniform For 2010

There are two additional tweaks to Our Washington Nationals Script Away Uniform for 2010. Sohna and I were told of these minor changes the other day and were reminded about them again last night. No longer will Washington wear blue under sleeves and blue stirrups/socks with the gray away jersey and pants. A tradition since baseball returned to Washington in 2005. Instead--moving more in line with the basic home jersey--Our Washington Nationals will don red under sleeves and red stirrups/socks.

However, the blue away cap with White Curly "W" remains the same. From a personal standpoint, we've believed since the red script Washington jersey came active last season, the blue away cap should match that red lettering on the jersey and sport a Red Curly "W". The St.Louis Cardinals have worn a blue away cap with red STL for years. We see no reason why Our Washington Nationals couldn't follow that same path.

If we are making two more tweaks to Washington's script away uniform for 2010, why not go all the way in 2011? And use something similar to this vintage 1963-1967 Washington Senators Cap pictured below. We think it just looks better.

  1. I hope they keep the blue cap the way it is now, it's perfect for everything but the home uniform. I wear it all the time when I'm out and about.

  2. This is also a good opportunity to have an alternate uniform that can use the blue with White Curly "W" Cap and make it stand out more. Whether it's a blue pinstripe with Curly "W"--like the Yankees. Or, a Blue Vest with White Curly "W", or something else along those lines--that would be sweet. The blue cap used since 2005 is a simple and nice design. It should be kept, but in a manner that enhances the image, not becoming lost within the overall uniform design that contains a different color scheme in the "W". Just our thoughts.

  3. I like your idea for a red Curly W on the navy away hats. A classier and more consistent look.

I would also like to see an exchange of the gold shadow around the backside numbers with white as it now appears on the front.

That would brighten up the numbers against the gray background and make all the lettering and numbers consistent.

You see this on the Angel's away uniforms and it makes for a brighter, easier to read away uniform.

  4. I wouldn't want it as a permanent change, but you know how the Nats and Bucs wear throwback uniforms for the Homestead Grays once a year? One of these days, I'd like to see the Nats and the Mets wear the uniforms that their '24 forebears did in the World Series. (I'm thinking of the Mets as a continuation of the Giants franchise in New York.)

  5. i miss the old washington nationals road unifroms. to have red letters, socks, and sleeves underneath the jersey with a blue hat does not work (just ask the st. louis cardinals). you know how the old saying goes:if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
