Spring Training Dates Set



With no World Baseball Classic in 2010, the start of Spring Training moves back to a more traditional opening next season, according to a press release today from Our Washington Nationals. Pitchers and Catchers will report on February 19th, while Position Players must come to Viera, Florida Camp by February 24th. Full Camp Workouts will begin on February 26th. The First of 32 Grapefruit League games will commence with split squad games on March 4th against The Florida Marlins in Jupiter, Florida and Houston Astros in Kissimmee. The home Space Coast Stadium schedule will begin on March 6th versus The New York Mets.

With The Baltimore Orioles relocating their Spring Training Facility to the west coast of Florida and other Major League Teams moving to Arizona, the exhibition schedule is limited to just eight other Big League Teams taking on Washington this coming March, although The New York Yankees will make a stop in Viera on March 12th. The only West Coast Florida Based Team that will visit Space Coast Stadium in 2010. The Boston Red Sox will visit Nationals Park for the final exhibition game of 2010 on April 3rd. Washington will visit Boston's Ft. Myers based training ground the previous day.

NATIONALS ANNOUNCE 2010 SPRING TRAINING SCHEDULE

Schedule features home game vs. World Champion Yankees & exhibition with Red Sox at Nationals Park

The Washington Nationals today announced their 2010 Spring Training schedule, which is highlighted by a home matchup against the World Champion New York Yankees on March 12 and will conclude with an exhibition tilt against the Boston Red Sox on April 3 at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

The Florida-based portion of the Nationals’ spring schedule is comprised of 32 Grapefruit League contests, including 15 home games at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, FL. It will commence on March 4 with split-squad games against the Florida Marlins in Jupiter, FL, and Houston Astros in Kissimmee, FL. The Nationals will host the New York Mets for their spring home opener on March 6 then will square off against the Yankees on March 12 at Space Coast Stadium. Washington will play host to the Red Sox on April 3 at Nationals Park, marking the third straight season that the Nation’s Capital will host a baseball exhibition prior to Opening Day. The Nationals kicked off the 2008 and ‘09 campaigns
with exhibition contests against the Baltimore Orioles.

The team’s report/workout dates are as follows: pitchers/catchers report (February 19), position players report (February
24), first full-squad workout (February 26).

Individual-game tickets for the Nationals’ spring contests at Space Coast Stadium, excluding the March 12 home game against the Yankees, will be available beginning on January 23 at 10:00 a.m. They can be purchased at the Space Coast Stadium Box Office, online at nationals.com, or by calling 321.633.9200. Season tickets, group tickets and suites are on sale now and can be reserved by calling 321.633.9200. Purchase options for the March 12 Nationals-Yankees contest will be announced at a later date.

Tickets for the Nationals-Red Sox game on April 3 at Nationals Park will be available to the public when individual- game tickets for the 2010 season go on sale in February. Fans interested in season ticket plans at Nationals Park for the 2010 home season may purchase full (82), half (42) and partial (22) packages online at nationals.com/tickets or by calling 202.675.NATS(6287) - option #1. Tickets to the exhibition game against the Red Sox are included in each plan for half price.
