9/11 Remembrance Day At Nationals Park

In remembrance of the 8th year since the September 11th Attacks, Our Washington Nationals will honor those lost on that tragic day and recognize some of the heroes on Thursday, September 10th during the conclusion of a three game series with The Philadelphia Phillies (Washington is away in Miami for 9/11 this season).


For the game, DC's Team will wear their patriotic "DC" Blue Uniforms and the MLB Special Red Caps with "Stars & Bars" in the Curly "W". During batting practice each team member in uniform will sport a specially designed DC Fire and EMS 9/11 Memorial Cap. The DCFD logo embroidered on the front, 9/11/01 on the side and the Curly "W" on the back.

The first pitch will be thrown out by Mr. Thomas Heidenberger (a Chevy Chase, Maryland resident) whose wife, Michelle, was the Senior Flight Attendant aboard American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon. There will be a helicopter flyover by Metropolitan Police and Firefighters from both Arlington County and the City of Alexandria will take the field as "The Starting Nine".

Washington Nationals Host September 11th Remembrance Day

WHAT: The Washington Nationals will host September 11th Remembrance Day on Thursday, September 10, during the final game of the homestand vs. the Philadelphia Phillies. The Nationals will honor those lost on September 11th, and recognize members of the DC Fire Department and U.S. Capitol Police Department, during the pregame ceremonies. The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by Thomas Heidenberger, a longtime resident of Chevy Chase, MD, whose wife Michele was a senior flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 77 which crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11. The National Anthem will be performed by a member of the U.S. Capitol Police Department, and will be accompanied by a flyover by Metropolitan Police Department helicopters. Additionally, members of the Arlington County and City of Alexandria Fire Departments will take the field as the “Starting 9”.

Nationals players will wear specially-made DC Fire and EMS 9/11 Memorial hats during batting practice. The hats have the DCFD logo on the front, Curly “W” on the back and 9/11/01 on the side. For the game the team will wear their patriotic uniforms along with the special red hats with flag logo produced by New Era for all MLB teams for the Fourth of July and September 11th Remembrance games.

The Nationals will offer discounted tickets for all active military, police officers, EMTs and firefighters for this contest vs. the Phillies. Fans who are members of the aforementioned groups may purchase two tickets for the price of one, or one ticket for 50 percent off the normal price, by presenting a valid I.D. at the Nationals Park Box Office on the day of the game.
