Beginning in 2005, The African Queen and I enjoyed Section 320 at RFK Stadium. Our Washington Nationals and the Nats320 Blog came to life for us there. Since 2008-we've sat in Section 218 at Nationals Park, but our blog name has not changed. Our roots are in Nats320-and we will never forget those good times. But, as always, we will attempt to provide fun, information and commentary about Our Washington Nationals. All photos, unless otherwise attributed-COPYRIGHT Nats320--ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

Mission Accomplished
Let's Play Two!! The Grass is completely down at New Nationals Park.
I asked this question on the forum. But, I'll ask it again here. Why did the dugout get painted green. With all the blue seats I can understand blue or red (team colors). But, why green?
The stadium looks like it will be completed on schedule, but I really wish you hadn't used the words "Mission Accomplished." Now I worry that may bring bad luck...
SBF -- Look forward to your research on the dugouts. Since the dugouts at RFK were painted with Nats logos, I'd expect something along those lines here.
All Right--Here is The Answer to The Green Dugouts. I contacted Matt Haas, Project Director for Clark Construction. This was his complete reply. You are going to be surprised:
"The Nationals wanted the dugouts painted green. However, they plan to paint or apply advertisements to the tops so it is likely that you won't see green on the tops." (Matt Haas--Project Director)
BTW, I assume the reason why the left field stands are incomplete is that when the construction workers dug out the earth for the baseball field, the dump trucks had to drive SOMEWHERE, and that somewhere was obviously left field.
I assume we will see those stands completed in the coming weeks.
Good question on LF stands....I thought I saw the dirt come from CF gate and there LF Wall is up so I wonder how trucks could come through LF.....SBF...please, why are the LF stands dirt now this late in the construction?
The Answer to the LF Stands Question was actually mentioned in the "Build It Bigger" Discovery Channel Program on The Stadium. Throughout the process--the construction has been completed in pie segments. Each Section being designed while others are actually being constructed. The LF Area of the ballpark is last in that line of procession. Clark VP Ronnie Strompf was quoted as saying this is not an unusual step--just the way the project played out under such a tight deadline.

Is it possible that the green cover on the dugouts is just some sort of primer, and they're going to be painted a different color?
ReplyDeleteGood Question--I will attempt to find out.

ReplyDeleteVery cool! The link is a story about Nationals ballpark dirt going into space with NASA to work on a project with the Arlington Science Focus School. Mission Accomplished, indeed! http://www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2007/nov/HQ_M07160_Internatl_Edu_Week_Event.html
