Robinson, Hodges, Campanella, Snider, Reese, Mantle, Berra, Enos Slaughter, and even Andy Carey, Junior Gilliam and Gil McDougald... MLB hit a game-winning grand slam on New Year's evening. It really made me yearn for a return to the good old days when fans came to the park to watch the game, and the game controlled TV rather than the other way around.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-14109406230885847022009-01-05T18:45:00.000-05:002009-01-05T18:45:00.000-05:00The pitchers only tossed warm up throws to the cat...The pitchers only tossed warm up throws to the catchers between innings. Rarely did the catcher get down in a squatting position.
Both pitchers pitched complete games. Never saw either manager come out to the mound. I was fortunate to see it because i was unaware DTV was adding the MLB channel. Poor marketing I suspect. But I saw a newsplash about Selig lauching the network and I scooted over to my TV and low and behold MLB network on Channel 213 and in HD even. Although I am sure the HD offerings will be sparse it is nice to see they didn't waste time like the NFL network did in getting the HD option going. You are right is was so refreshing to note the little things the 1950's players did. I have high hopes for this channel.

Take Me Out To The Ballgame!

SamAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-41049915648302529312009-01-05T11:15:00.000-05:002009-01-05T11:15:00.000-05:00It would be nice if the Nats, as a special promoti...It would be nice if the Nats, as a special promotion, would have a couple of games each year in which they'd not have any music and extraneous junk over the PA system.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-82967099851677820982009-01-04T21:24:00.000-05:002009-01-04T21:24:00.000-05:00Unfortunately, my brother-in-law has the Dish Netw...Unfortunately, my brother-in-law has the Dish Network, so the MLB Network is unavailable at the moment. Maybe they'll be able to pick it up later.

I wonder if it would be possible to re-create baseball games that were never filmed but we know the play-by-play? Fans used to watch "scoreboards" before TV when they couldn't get tickets to World Series games. Perhaps they could do something like that to re-create the 1924 World Series?

(OK, I doubt the MLB Network will be interested in re-creating a series between a Washington team on one hand, and a franchise that---unlike the Dodgers---has lost ALL of their fans and appeal in their original city. But perhaps MASN might be interested some day?)Edward J. Cunninghamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11925008506185290162noreply@blogger.com
