The Marlins exploited a weakness they found on fastballs on the outside of the plate and struck him out a couple of times yesterday.

It is great to be cautiously optimistic as this kid could be as you state the real deal.

This team's weakness was a front line #1 starter and the bullpen. Lannan would be slotted as a #3 to #5 on most playoff teams and that isn't a negative on Lannan as he is a good pitcher just not a dominating #1 or #2 starter.

For my money, spend it on a front line starter as Willingham, Nyjer Morgan, and Elijah Dukes make a good outfield and to be realistic I only see one major Free Agent acquistion this year.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-30833845927597405682009-09-14T14:44:15.959-04:002009-09-14T14:44:15.959-04:00Wonderfully expressed post. But, you failed to note that this is his actual name and we know his true age - two good things in a Nats' shortstop prospect!!

I had e-mailed Mike Rizzo on the day he got the job congrats and a suggestion that he use the balance of this year to get Guz acclamated to playing second in 2010, which would free him to pursue a Matt Holiday type to play outfield and bat 5th rather than investing in one or two free agents to man the middle infield. Wouldn't it just be terrific if Desmond could be the real deal and we could slot him in to play short and bat 8th next year, with Guz finishing his stint with Nats at second, batting second? Thus, money could then go to get someone like a Holliday which, along with Morgan and Flores, would solidify Nats offense. Then, two starters and a reliever and you have a real team for 2010. All for about $24 million, I would figure - on budget. Then, figure $11.5 for Harper, and we are all excited to live in NatsTown.

Riggles needs to win 8 out of 19 to be the presumptive manager for 2010-11. Every game counts enormously for him. Phillies and Dodgers competing for home field, but it still can be done. Start Detwiller and that can help get him there.

Stay Thirsty My Friend.
