I thought that if the catcher was blocking the plate without the ball it was interference on the catcher? Nyjer had no excuse to not touch home, but I was under the impression the catcher was also interfering? Also, I couldn't see the fan interference play with Bernadina from my seats, can someone explain what happened on that? All in all, this was a "technically" interesting game, and clobbering someone for 14 runs is always exciting. P.S. I just heard we signed Livo to an extension for 2011, smart move given he's the only starter who hasn't missed a turn this season.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12295507035800192056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-35613095427758057262010-08-29T21:17:22.224-04:002010-08-29T21:17:22.224-04:00What was inexcusable was the complete silence the ...What was inexcusable was the complete silence the fans at the park heard from the Public Address system as to why the two controversial calls were made. We're not looking for a play-by-play but when something's that unusual, tell the paying fans what has just happened. It can be done. Type up an explanation and post it on the scoreboard. We shouldn't have to leave our seats and head for the concourse or bathroom to listen to the radio broadcast to understand what just happened!

Nyjer had an explanation for his behavior and although it made some sense, Jim Riggleman was right to sit him Sunday. It did not look like a baseball move, so I understand everyone's reaction.

Anyway -- What a Game! Glad to have been there!John B. Sometimes in a close play at the plate, a baserunner will miss home plate by accident. Nyjer had a clear shot at home plate but he missed it because he was looking at the catcher. He was looking at the catcher because Nyjer's first goal was to collide with him---scoring was purely secondary. You don't collide with the catcher unless you absolutely have to in order to score a run. This isn't the NHL, and several former Expos fans are quite knowledgable about the NHL, and they are emphatic that what Nyjer did was wrong.

Collision at home plate

Nyjer Morgan currently plays for the Washington Nationals. If it is his dream to play for the Washington Capitals, I'm sure an interview with Bruce Boudreau can be arranged.Edward J.
