I figure that the increased revenue from having a better team would outweigh having an All-Star Game in DC, with the announcers making snide comments about how only one player from the home team is in attendance.

Anyway, if the stadium is not "substantially complete," why have the All-Star Game there soon, anyway?

This is assuming that any reluctance in signing over slot would have to do with wanting an ASG in DC. If they want to make more money, they can sell the naming rights to the stadium. It is funny how having the name "Nationals Park" doesn't feel as good as it should- it just seems like they couldn't get anyone excited enough to sponsor the team.Positively Half St.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07048223068323120438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-21464346244286835572008-08-05T13:38:00.000-04:002008-08-05T13:38:00.000-04:00It's important to sign Crow. But at the end of the day I find myself thinking that we still need that 40-homer cleanup guy, probably two top-of-the-rotation starters (maybe Balester and/or Zimmerman can grow into these roles but not for a few years), and arguably a CF and an SS (and that's if Bonifacio can indeed hit leadoff).

Bottom line: The Plan is not likely to come to fruition in 2010. Maybe 2012, if several of Marrero, Rhinehart, Burgess, Hood, Maxwell, Smiley Gonzalez et al progress.

Thoughts?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-11150251910210195582008-08-05T12:16:00.000-04:002008-08-05T12:16:00.000-04:00I knew there couldn't possibly be this much excite...I knew there couldn't possibly be this much excitement over Ryan Langerhans.Chris Needhamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10455692848328638937noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-42398598028046987032008-08-05T12:09:00.000-04:002008-08-05T12:09:00.000-04:00Hah - last one in!Hah - last one in!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-21788293082925921012008-08-05T12:07:00.000-04:002008-08-05T12:07:00.000-04:00NJ is officially down:"Thank you for your comment....NJ is officially down:

"Thank you for your comment. Milledge is trying to over swinging to an extreme and trying to pull every pitch. Thanks Lenny.

Funny thing is this solution to the tap out Thursday night off Jamie M was to encourage him, like Milledge would lose his self confidence? This "insight" into how Harris does his job just confirms to me that he must go. He is completely ineffective and the results with Milledge show that. Chico without knowing it confirmed that Lenny's approach has not helped Milledge. He still over swings at every pitch, where is the progress? Sorry Lenny you need to go back to school and get a degree if you want to be a psychologist. Lasting needs some tough love, not a friend who tells him he is the greatest and to keep is head up. He needs a hitting coach that tells him to follow the plan, keep you head in or sit awhile and think about it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-32575321877086536182008-08-05T06:39:00.000-04:002008-08-05T06:39:00.000-04:00Anonymous said... He gets out there and gets his hands dirty just like every other player on the team.”

I have seen Manny out there with the guys and he seems to enjoy that aspect, BUT there needs to be that separation of Manny is not "one of the guys" and is their boss. Ryan Langerhans gets it but I wonder if all the players do.

Don Sutton says that a player really "gets it" at age 30. My question is how do we accelerate that?

One of the things I like about pro football programs is all the classroom and film time for preparation. It isn't as practical with baseball since you are playing almost every game. I think if these players as a group saw on film the past mistakes at the plate such as swinging at 1st pitches after the previous player was walked, missed bunts, bad baserunning, etc., they could learn from it. Our team is young, and they are on that learning curve so mistakes will happen it is minimizing those mistakes which can get this team to win more.

Don Sutton also talked about how Jesus Flores has become a student of the game watching film which has led to his remarkable improvement and I know of players like Albert Pujols who watch a lot of video (even between innings) of their at-bats.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28676208.post-89019841299314989192008-08-04T14:12:00.000-04:002008-08-04T14:12:00.000-04:00Thanks for the interview SBF.
