The Water Taxi To New Nationals Park
With all the talk about transportation and parking needs surrounding New Nationals Park, I went searching for an update on the reported Water Taxi from Alexandria, Virginia to the new stadium. For some time now, The Potomac Riverboat Company has shown an interest in providing such a service. Potomac Riverboat currently has a contract for a Water/Taxi Shuttle to Georgetown. And soon, will begin service to The National Harbor Center in Prince Georges County.
Unfortunately, don't get your hopes up for this coming season of Nats Baseball--at least not yet. The Potomac Riverboat Company has notified me that The District of Columbia Government does not expect to have a dock ready at New Nationals Park for the Ballpark's Inaugural Season--although plans are moving forward on the idea. Potomac Riverboat is still very interested in providing such a service to Nationals Fans--and is currently looking into other options to fill the gap.
No other details were given--but they promised to keep me informed--as their plans develop further.
As always, just passing the information along as provided.
PS--Pictures from The Potomac Riverboat Company website. Used just as to provide a general idea--not sure which of their boats will be used if the Water Taxi comes to fruition.

Hey SBF...nice blog. Down here in Blacksburg, we didn't pick up MASN on campus or local cable packages. We've seen articles saying MASN is expanding to North Carolina, have you heard of anything reaching our market?
Thanks for your all you do and see you at the ballpark!
There is a Post story about a water taxi/ferry on the Potomac. The latest was in November, which I blogged about then.
SBF--any word on shuttle/connector buses fron Union station to the park and back. Sounds like a great idea Neal
Virginia Tech Nats Fans: I contacted MASN this afternoon and specifically asked about their coverage in the Blacksburg area. They were unsure of complete coverage--but told me Comcast does carry MASN in some parts of your area. MASN has rights to that area, but not all cable providers take their service. It you can, let me know the cable operator--then I can be more specific with MASN. Thanks. Hope that helps in some small way.
I'm the producer of the Nationals pre-game and post-game show for MASN. As we get ready for this season and the Nationals, I was hoping to get in touch with you (and a number of other bloggers) about this season. What I am hoping to do is create a short, recurring segment on our show (w/ Johnny Holliday and Ray Knight) about what bloggers are writing about concerning the Nationals. What I am looking for now is a database of blog sites we can feature on the show...
For example:
"On today's Nationals Blog Beat, xxx from Nats320 writes 'Austin Kearns has been playing great'..."
Is this something you would be interested in?
Any further ideas you have could work as well...
Kindly,
Matt Perl

We have a pier 300 yards walking distance from Nationals Park, other than Metromarine Holdings who do large passenger ferrys in NYC and Boston no one from DC or VA has contacted use to use our pier. We are doing a business plan to see who would like to use the pier of passenger drop/pick and boat docking for the games. You may contact me via email. Thank you Don S.
Uh, Don S!! (I don't see an email address). I would LOVE to use your pier! I'm not commercial and just have a little inflatable, but I've been looking for a place to tie up/dock for games. I can be reached at misschatter at gmail.
Any new news for the 2009 season on this topic?
Just last week, a groundbreaking ceremony for the building of the docks took place at Diamond Teague Park which is at the corner of 1st and Potomac SE. Mayor Fenty claimed the dock would be ready by Opening Day. Potomac Riverboat Company has yet to commit to having a water taxi from Alexandria as they are waiting for the dock completion first. But they told me they are willing to run a water taxi once a dock is in place next to Nationals Park.
